Road Maintenance Ratings: Local Authority Map

How effectively is your council maintaining your local roads? Use the map below to see whether your local highway authority has been rated as Red, Amber or Green when it comes to keeping your roads in good condition and free from potholes.

For the first time, people across England can now see how well their local council is tackling potholes, resurfacing roads and restoring pride to their local area, thanks to a new traffic light rating system published by the Government.

The new ratings - the first of their kind - grade 154 local highway authorities as red, amber or green based on how effectively they are fixing potholes and investing in preventative measures to maintain their road network in the long term.

This builds on the Autumn Budget announcement of £7.3 billion of funding over the next four years which will give long term certainty and allow councils to repair potholes effectively, moving away from expensive, short-term repairs and instead investing in long-term preventative measures. This will help save drivers - for whom the average vehicle repair bill after hitting a pothole is £320, with some motorists paying over £1,000 last year - from costly repairs.
